about

What is the Harvest Run?

The Harvest Run began in 1991 as a small community-run hosted by the Red Deer Runner.  It has grown to include over 350 runners, as well as a devoted group of volunteers who make the event happen. 2023 will be the 31st Harvest Run and we would love for you to be involved!

To be held Sunday, September 10th, 2023, this family-friendly event offers a 3km walk/run, and an 8km run through the beautiful Red Deer trail system. Participants of all ages can enjoy the event at the level they choose. Both distances have plenty of competitive runners and enthusiastic beginners.

Entry fees are kept low, and bursaries are created from any surplus funds. The Harvest Run itself is a non-profit organization. At the conclusion of each year, the Harvest Run Committee contributes money to a bursary. This enables local young runners to pursue competition at higher levels. In the past, bursary money has enabled runners to compete at a national level.

The goal of the Harvest Run is to promote active living in Central Alberta. Because of this, organizers focus on keeping the cost of the event down through sponsorship, thus keeping the entry fees affordable.

Most importantly, the Harvest Run is a good time. Families and friends can spend a morning cheering each other on as they celebrate their fitness journey. A lot of people who are new to running use the Harvest Run as their first race!

Sincerely,

2023 Harvest Run Executive Committee
